Though it is exceedingly common for charities to pursue various fundraising ventures throughout the year, some administrators decide to go a different route. These leaders put all of their efforts into a single massive campaign at one time during the year in the hopes of capturing the attention of donors who are interested in helping out. This can also be a good way to make sure all hands are on deck as far as workers and volunteers go - they can hone their engagement and connection-making skills ahead of time and put their talents on display once annually.
These factors may have contributed to the plan for the Hampshire County, Mass., branch of United Way to launch a fundraising campaign once per year. The organization recently began its 2014 campaign and hopes to break records with help from generous individuals in its community.
Nonprofit sets $1.275 million goal
According to The Hampshire Gazette, leaders at United Way of Hampshire County decided to set a $1.275 million fundraising goal for the 2014 campaign, called "Advancing the Common Good in Hampshire County," which kicked off September 24. The promotions were officially started at a luncheon attended by past supporters and partner agencies. The news source said that this is a new goal for the organization, as 2013's aim was to garner $1.25 million, which was successfully met.
The hope is to meet the new goal by June, and the organization may be able to obtain more donations by explaining to individuals that their money will go toward great causes. After all, The Gazette reported that the local United Way branch gave grants to 32 organizations that then helped 28,000 people in 2012, equating to about one in six county residents.
Not the only branch soliciting donations
There are factions of United Way all over the nation, and the one located in Hampshire County is not the only one trying to fundraise right now. For instance, South Carolina's United Way of York County also started a new campaign on September 24, The Herald stated.
This event was kicked off by a football-themed luncheon to suggest the themes of teamwork and outreach. However, the news source explained, this branch's goal is a little loftier than that of the location in Massachusetts. The York County United Way aims to raise $1.4 million in 2014, which is an increase of $100,000 from the 2013 goal.
Individuals, programs and organizations that rely on fundraising to fuel sustainable operations might find nonprofit fundraising software advantageous. The solutions can facilitate the process of identifying grant opportunities, generate reports that demonstrate current financial need and showcase previous achievements.
