The California Endowment's board of directors unanimously approved a $225 million commitment over the next four years to support the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which aligns with its primary goal of providing better care options for all state residents.

"We have a golden opportunity to create a health care system that is more accessible, more cost-effective, and more prevention-oriented. We offer this commitment in a sense of partnership, with humility about the task before us, but with urgency about the opportunity in front of us," said The California Endowment president Robert Ross in a statement that was recently released regarding the commitment.

These funds will help support the state's work to jumpstart community outreach and enrollment in insurance plans, so residents know how to take full advantage of these provisions. This commitment will also support the expansion of the primary healthcare field to address the growing need as the result of millions of people gaining coverage through the Act.

With the understanding that the ACA is a huge change, whichposes challenges and presents opportunities, the endowment believes it can benefit the state through the administration of preventative care, better treatment options and job creation.

Nonprofit organizations that are providing large grants over time can use nonprofit financial management programs to monitor the disbursement of funds over time and generate reports demonstrating measurable impacts.
