Longtime supporters Sheldon Adelson and his wife, Dr. Miriam Adelson, recently announced a $13 million gift for Taglit-Birthright Israel. The money will help reduce the waitlist of Jewish adults hoping to make the trip to Israel, and was made in celebration of the program's bar mitzvah year. Taglit-Birthright Israel has already sent almost 30,000 participants on free 10-day educational trips.

"When we discovered that 5,000 more young adults could still attend a trip this year if the funding was available, we felt compelled to act," said Sheldon Adelson. "With over 20,000 young adults on the waiting list, we feel that reducing that list must be a top priority of the Jewish community."

Adelson urged interested young adults to continue applying for the trips, and said he plans provide additional resources to make the voyages possible. Earlier this year, the Adelsons made a $20 million challenge grant, bringing their total giving to the Birthright Israel Foundation up to $140 million.

Organizations that regularly receive funding for programs might benefit from a solution such as grant management software, which can make it easier to account for gifts and audit financial needs.
