The Blanche & Julian Robertson Family Foundation recently announced that it will provide $1.8 million in grants to 70 nonprofits in the Salisbury, North Carolina, area. This round of grantgiving will be made in honor of James F. Hurley III, a board chairman from 2001 through 2011 and key leader of organization who passed away on April 2.

The foundation aims to breathe new life into North Carolina neighborhoods by encouraging first-time home buyers, making recreation and athletic programs more widely available, addressing social concerns and helping community members build positive relationships. It is also working to draw attention to environmental and health issues, as well as support programs that help at-risk youth and families in crisis.

Recipients include the Adolescent & Family Enrichment Council, which received $15,000 for its efforts to combat bullying through education and teen parent programs. The Rowan County Parks & Recreation Department also received $15,000 to rebuild the Dan Nicholas Park Putt Putt golf course so that it will accommodate disabled residents.

Nonprofits that are seeking funds from philanthropic foundations might benefit from nonprofit fundraising software to streamline account management and make it easy to produce reports.
