New fundraising database increases transparency of Mexican philanthropies

The nonprofit sector has become more competitive since the economic downturn, which forced many donors to reduce their philanthropic contributions in an effort to save money. With less money to work with, many people, corporations and foundations placed greater emphasis on where their charitable dollars would be used most effectively. They have asked nonprofits and other groups to provide transparent information about the allocation of funds and they want measurable results of the impacts of various projects.
To give additional clarity to philanthropic fund distribution, the Foundation Center has introduced a database that outlines grant and funding information and recently added a free web-based platform for 22,000 philanthropies in Mexico. The Fondos a la Vista, Funds at a Glance, will give funders clearer pictures about each organization's goals, current projects and areas of focus.
"In the long term we hope Fondos a la Vista will play an important role in ushering in an era of enhanced accountability between the nonprofit sector and the general public in Mexico," said Alternativas y Capacidades executive director Miguel Ángel de la Vega.
Individuals, programs and organizations that rely on fundraising to fuel sustainable operations might find nonprofit fundraising software advantageous. The solutions can facilitate the process of identifying grant opportunities, generate reports that demonstrate current financial need and showcase previous achievements.
