The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF)recently received a $7 million commitment from New York philanthropist Stewart Rahr to support the fight against prostate cancer.

"[Rahr's] philanthropic spirit will inevitably change the treatment landscape for prostate cancer and reduce death and suffering as a result of this disease. Millions of men and their families will benefit from Stewart's humanity," said Jonathan Simons, president and CEO of the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

The lion's share of the commitment, $5 million, will go toward the newly formed PCF- Stand UP to Cancer Dream Team, led by the University of Michigan's Dr. Arul Chinnaiyan and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York's Charles Sawyers. They will work with teams from Boston's Broad Institute and Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Seattle's Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute, New York's Weill Cornell Medical College and London's Institute of Cancer Research/The Royal Marsden Hospital. Together, these leading researcher facilities are working to develop and deliver precision therapies sooner after patients are diagnosed with positive biopsies.

The remaining $2 million of the commitment will be used for various research awards within the PCF.
