The North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Foundation, an organization that was created in 1986 and is based in Research Triangle Park, recently announced it's providing North Carolina Agriculture and Technical (A&T) State University with a $1.76 million grant over the next five years to create a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) center that will advance studies in the discipline. 

The grant is earmarked for multiple projects, including the STEM Center of Excellence for Active Learning at North Carolina A&T State University, new student-centered learning models, building a community of faculty and scholars and developing pipeline programs to attract high school students and incoming freshman to STEM programs. 

"We are thrilled to receive this grant from the N.C. GSK Foundation that will enable us to take our science education to the next level," said dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Dr. Goldie Byrd. "Our new STEM center will position N.C. A&T to become one of the nation's top producers of high achieving graduates who pursue STEM careers."
