The Wal-Mart Foundation recently announced 10 additional school districts will benefit from its Breakfast in the Classroom program, an initiative that aims to help children across the country fuel up for learning with a healthy breakfast. The foundation has already announced nine of the districts that will benefit from the $5 million grant that has been allocated to expand the program, with a tenth to be revealed shortly.

The Charleston County School District in South Carolina, Denver Public Schools in Colorado, Des Moines Public Schools in Iowa, Elgin School District U-46 in Illinois, Guilford County Schools in North Carolina are among the districts selected. In addition, Jefferson County Public Schools in Kentucky, Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, Knox County Schools, in Tennessee and Pinellas County Schools in Florida will also benefit.

On top of adding new schools to the program's list of participants, the foundation has also announced it's making adjustments to ensure maximum impact is achieved. Bus schedules, pressure to get to the classroom on time and the social connotations of being labeled "low income" have kept many children from participating. To combat those roadblocks, free breakfasts will now be available to all students and will be served in classrooms.

Schools that participate in programs can ensure they are using grants correctly, as per the requirements of contributing foundations, through a grant management software that tracks fund dispersals.
