The Home Depot Foundation recently completed its second annual Celebration of Service Campaign, which aims to give back to veterans and their families. The initiative commenced on September 11 and concluded on Veterans Day. During that 60-day time frame, the foundation's 12,000 volunteers completed 350 projects across the country.

"As we commemorate Veterans Day and conclude our 2012 Celebration of Service campaign, we are even more committed to our year round mission to ensure that every veteran has a safe place to call home," said Kelly Caffarelli, president of The Home Depot Foundation.

In all, this year's $3 million renovation and repair projects for veterans advances the Home Depot Foundation toward its three-year, $50 million goal. Some of its efforts included the installation of wheelchair ramps, kitchen remodels and work on 10 veteran medical facilities, 85 housing facilities for wounded soldiers and their families as well as formerly homeless veterans and 300 single-family homes.

Foundations and organizations that provide annual funding might benefit from nonprofit accounting software, which can help board members audit funds and ensure the correct amounts are being distributed to various programs each year.
