Google invests around $200 million to support sustainable energy

Google recently announced that it's going to provide a Texas wind project with an equity investment worth approximately $200 million, the result of a recent renewable energy deal.
The Spinning Spur Wind Project in Oldham County, Texas is near Amarillo - one of the windiest areas of the Lone Star State. This wind farm is expected to produce enough power to supply an estimated 60,000 homes in New Mexico and Texas with 70 2.3 MW Siemens turbines.
Since 2010, Google has made 10 other investments in renewable energy programs, including the Ivanpah Project in California, which is creating jobs and generating power that won't produce the carbon dioxide and air pollutants emitted by burning fossil fuels. The Shepherds Flat Wind Farm in Oregon is expected to be the biggest wind farm in the world, according to the Google Blog. Once it's fully completed, the project is expected to generate enough energy to power 235,000 homes or more.
This is part of an ongoing effort by Google to identify technologies that can manage energy consumption more efficiently, such as smart meters and programmable thermostats, according to the company's Green Blog.
