Companies using online forum to match donations
April 01, 2013
Online donating has become very popular in the past few years. Individuals take to the net for numerous things, like shopping and bill paying, so it makes sense that donating would follow. Using fundraising technology, some businesses are even matching the funds given by citizens online
According to the Standard-Examiner, the Community Foundation of Utah held the Love UT Give UT event on March 22, which took place online and asked citizens to head to the single interface to give money to various community organizations and nonprofits that support schools.
Foundation director Fraser Nelson told the newspaper that there were all different types of organizations with various budgets involved. Moreover, she said, many nonprofits and individuals alike have pledged to match whatever is donated online.
"If we raise $300 in the first hour, then we have a company that will match that," Nelson noted. "We have some doubling of gifts."
Luckily, Love UT Give UT did well online. According to the organization's website, more than $633,000 has been given by more than 6,500 unique donors. However, Salt Lake Magazine reported that Nelson puts the number past $800,000 in total.
As foundations tap into emerging digital channels to raise funds online, they can benefit from nonprofit fundraising software that tracks incoming donations and quantitatively measures the success of their efforts.
