The AstraZeneca Healthcare Foundation recently announced it was granting more than $4.4 million to 22 cardiovascular projects from nonprofits across the country as part of its Connections for Cardiovascular Health program.

This funding supports a wide range of work, which includes education about the benefits of participating in activity on a regular basis and making food choices based on nutrition and disease management for those suffering from diabetes or heart conditions.

The organizations that received awards through this round of grantmaking include the Allegiance Health Foundation in Jackson, Michigan; Ashland-Boyd County Health Department in Ashland, Kentucky; Catherine's Health Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, Delaware; Cornell Cooperative Extension Association in Schenectady, New York; Cornerstone Assistance Network in Fort Worth, Texas and others.

"Cardiovascular disease continues to be the nation's No. 1 killer, which is why we must work to decrease the risks of this devastating disease," said James Blasetto, chairman of the foundation. "The AstraZeneca Healthcare Foundation is proud to provide funding to innovative, grassroots programs across the country working to help prevent and control the effects of cardiovascular disease in their communities."

Foundations that support nonprofit programs year-round can use grant management software to help board members and accountants track funds and recipients as awards are allocated.
