$9.2 million raised for cancer research
August 22, 2013
Considering the various types of cancer that exist, it should come as no surprise that this medical condition affects millions of people and their families worldwide each year. Everyday, numerous scientists strive to discover new treatments and cures to cancer, although many of these initiatives have ultimately proved unsuccessful.
With this in mind, the V Foundation for Cancer Research recently held the 15th Annual V Foundation Wine Celebration fundraising event to obtain donations to enable further research in the future. The foundation was able to raise $9.2 million between August 1 and 3. Gifts totaling $1.2 million were specifically given to honor "Good Morning America" co-host Robin Roberts.
There were various opportunities to donate during the event, from silent auctions to a raffle for a Porsche.
A joint effort by college basketball coach and broadcaster Jim Valvano and ESPN resulted in the creation of the V Foundation for Cancer Research in 1993. Since its inception, the organization has awarded more than $100 million to more than 100 groups across the United States.
Individuals, programs and organizations that rely on fundraising to fuel sustainable operations might find nonprofit fundraising software advantageous. The solutions can facilitate the process of identifying grant opportunities, generate reports that demonstrate current financial need and showcase previous achievements.
