$8.3 million gift to Missouri University to improve athletics department
February 05, 2013
The University of Missouri recently received a gift totaling nearly $8.3 million from Don and Audrey Walsworth to improve some of the school's athletic program facilities. Don is CEO of the Walsworth Publishing Company and was an MU alumnus.
"The university has been very good to us over the years, including our children and grandchildren," said Walsworth. "This gift is indicative of the fantastic leadership of the university and the athletic department, including the outstanding coaches and staff. We are so pleased with the organization and administration."
This support comes at an exciting time in the school's athletic department because it plans to transition to the Southeastern Conference in the future. Walsworth said his family is excited about the move and the potential for the school's athletes to receive attention on a national level.
Through this gift, MU plans to build a new clubhouse for its men's and women's golf teams, which will include team locker rooms, indoor hitting bays, coaches' offices and swing instruction technology - an addition that is expected to help the school's recruiting programs in the future.
Stephanie Priesmeyer, the women's golf coach, said this will make MU's team more competitive as they move forward.
