How some firms are using construction technology to manage their vehicles
February 28, 2012
Construction software and technology is changing how many contractors manage their businesses. Hardware and software have evolved at a rapid rate, enabling contractors to maximize efficiency by taking greater control of the work site.
For example, new GPS equipment enables construction company owners to better manage their fleet of vehicles. As ConstrucTech notes, the ability to log travel patterns, employee hours and fuel consumption help businesses save substantial money. Moreover, there are advantages to this technology that aren't measurable in a traditional sense.
"In some cases, benefits are not quantifiable - such as the increased level of safety GPS tracking lends employees as they travel to and from remote, isolated or dangerous jobsites," the news source adds. "In many cases, fleet-management technology solutions also employ sensors that monitor driver behavior such as speeding, idling, seatbelt use and aggressive driving, therefore discouraging these behaviors."
It all boils down to effective use of equipment. Not only can construction software and technology improve efficiency on its own, it can also augment other processes.
