Contractors have shown increased interest in using construction software in the field, but devices such as smartphones or tablets could easily be broken on the job site.

Fortunately, many hardware manufacturers are creating rugged devices made specifically for use on construction sites, ConstrucTech reports. These products are slated to blend durability with functionality and have been created with the construction worker in mind.

"The jobsite is no place for delicate devices. Still, connected devices like tablets, smartphones, netbooks and others have taken a prominent role in helping business run more efficiently from the field - construction included," the news source explains.

"Leveraging the power of the always-on connectivity, new devices can perform a range of tasks to help builders and contractors better manage the jobsite," the tech publication adds.

Furthermore, in an effort to reach untapped markets, many construction software vendors are refreshing their existing products for use on mobile devices, which should create more opportunities for builders to use these programs.
