Developers in the real estate industry looking to build condominiums or commercial buildings may benefit from a new parking garage technology that parks cars via a machine operated system.

"Automatic parking is the ability for a customer to drive in, take their keys, leave their car for the machine to park. It is a hands-free, person-free parking process," Ari Milstein of New York-based Automotion Parking Systems, tells NY1.

The space-saving parking technology can park cars in half the amount of space as a traditional lot, and can be an asset to developers and contractors who want to make the most out of every piece of land.

Milstein added that a parking garage in Gramercy Park, New York, was able to fit 61 cars in a 36-by-100 foot site, noting that there's no need to include additional headroom, circulation space, driving space or lanes.

The Journal News points out that a similar garage has been proposed for a site in Mamaroneck, New York, as a possible solution to alleviate the village's downtown parking problems.
