Web based time tracking tools help manage employee smartphone use
January 29, 2013
Smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices are everywhere - people are using these gadgets to complete a variety of daily tasks, whether it's keeping up with their finances, connecting with family and friends or browsing for and purchasing products. These devices are increasingly making their way into the business world, as executives and employees are taking to smartphones and tablets to complete many work-related duties. This has led to an increase in bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies within companies, as staff members are preferring to utilize their personal gadgets to get their responsibilities done, both in the office and from remote locations. Of course, many businesses are now wondering how they can effectively manage their workers' hours. This can be accomplished by using web based time tracking, as the software allows employees to fill out a mobile timesheet and keep accurate records of the hours they work inside and outside of their offices.
BYOD practices on the rise
Recent research from Good Technology revealed that firms are increasingly implementing BYOD policies to give employees more flexibility and to accommodate their preferences in the hope of boosting morale and productivity. The study found that in 2012, more than three-quarters of businesses (76 percent) had processes in place that allowed staff members to bring their own devices to work and get tasks done from remote locations. This is in comparison to the 72 percent of companies that had BYOD policies in 2011.
"This year's report shows that BYOD continues to gain traction and those who have no plans to support BYOD are a small and rapidly shrinking minority of our customer base," said John Herrema, senior vice president of corporate strategy at Good Technology. "This is no surprise to us since we hear every day from our customers how embracing BYOD has made their enterprises more productive, collaborative, and competitive than they ever were before."
To further provide convenience for employees who follow BYOD practices, businesses can use web based time tracking technology to allow workers to enter their hours from anywhere, saving them from having to come into their offices to enter information on computers.
Vacation time also can be managed with web based solutions
For companies that are looking for ways to effectively manage their staff members' vacation time, web based tools can also help with this task. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes that one trend emerging among employees is buying and selling vacation days within their companies. To help maintain control over these changes, companies can use web based resources to record and store accurate information.
