Minnesota county receives fixed asset grants
May 03, 2012
A round of small fixed asset
grants was recently approved by the Hennepin County, Minnesota, board of commissioners, the Lake Minnetonka Patch reports.
Recipients include Orono-based Crystal Bay Park, which was given $10,000 to purchase new playground equipment, and the Lake Minnetonka Sailing School in Deephaven, which will put the $6,000 it was awarded toward upgrading its boat motors.
The money for fixed assets
, which was disbursed in conjunction with equipment funds from the Hennepin Youth Sports Program, is part of a biannual grantmaking effort that has distributed more than $9 million to 54 facilities since 2009, according to the news source.
KAAL-TV reports that several communities benefited from the grants, including St. Louis Park, New Hope and Minneapolis, as well as Minnetonka. New Hope is using the money to renovate one of its ice rinks, while other areas plan to put their equipment funds toward buying lacrosse goals, football gear and softball pitching machines.
According to the source, the money is generated from sales tax at the local ballpark.
